5k Superhero Walk/Run for Caregivers Battling Cancer

On September 13, 2015, Sparrow’s Nest presents a Superhero 5K Walk/Run to support their work helping caregivers who are battling cancer. The event includes food, vendors, crafts, live music and more for the whole family and takes place at James Baird State Park in Pleasant Valley, NY.

Vendors who wish to participate can register at a discounted fee before August 15. Advance race registration is $25 for adults and free for children 12 and under at SparrowsNestCharity.org. On the day of the race, the fee is $35 for adults and $10 for children under 12.

Sparrow’s Nest began in 2012 with a mission to feed the families of moms who were battling cancer. Community support of this mission was so great that the organization expanded the service to include all caregivers of children. “I always hoped to expand the mission in an effort to include men, who also play a crucial role in the household,” says Sparrow’s Nest Executive Director Krista Jones. Last year, Sparrow’s Nest successfully raised more than $375,000 through grants, awards and fundraisers, including its popular Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon.

All proceeds from the Superhero 5k Walk/Run benefit the charity. Team Sparrow plans to host more runs throughout the United States, and men and women between the ages of 21 and 65 are encouraged to join.

James Baird State Park is located at 14 Maintenance Ln., Pleasant Valley, NY, just off the Taconic Parkway. For more information and to register, visit SparrowsNestCharity.org.
