McPhillamy Goes from Acting to Astrology: New Astrology and Tarot Practice in Pleasantville

Colin McPhillamy
Colin McPhillamy has just opened a practice in Pleasantville offering astrology and tarot. A lifelong student of the cards and the stars, McPhillamy has also been a stage actor and writer for more than 30 years. “The intuitive arts are actually very close to theater,” he says. “Live theater can be profoundly healing. When it comes to comedy, where else can you hear that fantastic sound of several hundred people all laughing at once? It does you good!”
McPhillamy trained in London, where he worked in the West End and at the Royal National Theatre. His writing was broadcast on the BBC. He’s appeared on Broadway and has also toured the world.
That career informs his intuitive practice, he says. “Acting is about character. As with acting, effective astrological and tarot practice is a balance of technique and intuition. The consultations I offer draw deeply on my experience of theatre. We often have more range in our characters than we imagine, and astrology and tarot can expand awareness of that. My work is not overtly predictive; it is more designed for insight and support.”
